Why are companies wanting cover letters, resumes or both handwritten.?

I am noticing that more and more often ';Please send resume with handwritten cover letter...'; Are they analyzing our handwriting? It is very nerve wracking to try to handwrite a cover letter. I saw an ad today asking for a handwritten resume. Whats up with this?
